i find it odd that both newsweek and time chose the same photo of ronald reagan for their current commemorative issues. i'm sure both magazines had cover stories devoted to reagan's death in the works for awhile now. i wonder if both instantly thought of this image out of the hundreds they had to choose from? i guess that is what makes some images iconic and others not.
i was browsing through images of the funeral procession at listenmissy.com and i was struck by how beautiful, yet highly old-fashioned, the tradition of the caparisoned (riderless) horse is. just seeing those boots placed backwards in the stirrups is a moving enough image for me.
